How much money do people need to make in order to live?

I'm seventeen years old and my dad says that when i leave home (i'm guessing in the next 6 months to 2 years ) that the only thing i can take is my clothes and shoes but the car, cell phone, and i guess furniture stay with him. so if i get a job as a nurse and make $12 an hour do you think i could rent a cheap place and have an old car for that much or would i need two jobs? also how many hours a day do jobs let you work a week?

  1. If you are going to be a nurse, plan on making 35.00-40.00 an hour. Once you get established you should be able to live very nicely . There also is all the overtime you can handle. Health care is the hottest job market to be in today.
  2. Without knowing what rent, utilities, etc. are in your area, it is not possible to answer this. Remember that taxes will be withheld from that $12 per hour, so that will not be your bring-home pay. If you can get an apt. (furnished?) for $400 or less, utilities for less than $150/175, car pm't of $300 or less, you should have enough left over to pay for groceries, car insurance, gas, etc. You should be sure to save something each and every payday for emergencies.
  3. It will all work out. Look at it as an adventure. I first moved out when I was 19. Got a job and after 3 months of living with my step brother I got a apartment. The apartment was cheap, roach infested, and on the wrong side of town. A pizza pan and small pot were my only kitchen supplies. I had a small TV and a stereo in the living room. I found two chairs down by the dumpster and used those to sit on. After I went and bought slip covers. Anyway after 6 months I move to a better apartment without the roaches and on the right side of town. Started slowly accumulating household items. Sometime afterward I was setting in my apartment looking around one day and it dawned on me that everything I was looking at was bought and paid for by me. It's a good feeling to know that your independent and your own boss. I started out making $4.40 an hour. People live on $12 an hour all over this country. If you have a full time job you'll make it just fine.
  4. If your a registered nurse, you should be making more than $12.00 per hours
  5. Consider asking your Folks if you can pay them Bord and room It a lot cheaper but it will depend on your folks If you are close to some in laws my be you can rent a room from them Good Luck
